Learning on the Front Lines of Dairy Veterinary Medicine

An externship at Valley Veterinarians offers an unparalleled opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a dynamic, high-volume dairy practice. As an extern, you will work directly alongside our veterinarians in Tulare, Kings, Kern, and Fresno Counties, gaining essential hands-on training that is crucial for a successful career in large-animal medicine.

The Daily Experience

Your externship rotation is designed to maximize your exposure to all facets of modern dairy veterinary medicine:

Participation: Students are highly encouraged to participate in all emergency calls (24/7 service) alongside our rotating on-call doctor.
Schedule: Rotations typically begin with daily morning travel with different veterinarians for herd fertility work (Reproductive Palpation). Afternoons are assigned based on sick cow calls, procedures, and Dairy Consulting sessions.

Eligibility: We limit externship positions strictly to third and fourth-year veterinary students from AVMA-accredited veterinary schools.
Duration: The maximum allowable externship at Valley Veterinarians is 4 weeks.
